Golden reminds residents of Georgia sales tax holidays
State Sen. Tim Golden (D-Valdosta) reminds residents of Brooks, Cook, Lowndes and Thomas counties that Georgia’s annual sales tax holiday period for certain Energy Star merchandise is scheduled for Oct. 4-7. During that four-day period, Georgians will save money while products that conserve energy and protect the environment are exempt from both state and local sales tax.
Senator Golden was an original sponsor, along with former Rep. Ron Borders, also of Valdosta, of the sales tax holiday legislation that has been renewed by the General Assembly on an annual basis. The Energy Star sales tax holiday is in addition to the back-to-school sales tax holiday held in August as a means of helping Georgia families with expenses on school supplies and providing Georgia retailers with a boost in summer sales.
Energy Star qualified merchandise includes windows, doors, dishwashers, clothes washers, air conditioners, ceiling fans, fluorescent light bulbs, dehumidifiers, programmable thermostats and refrigerators. The purchase price of any exempted item cannot exceed $1,500.
