Sen. Golden named to Lien Law Study Committee
August 21, 2007 -- Atlanta, GA -- State Sen. Tim Golden (D-Valdosta) has been appointed by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle to serve on the Senate Comprehensive Lien Law Study Committee.

The study committee was established through Senate Resolution 636 as a means to study the state’s current lien laws for fairness and effectiveness. According to the Resolution, the committee will address Georgia’s “extensive, complex” lien laws in an effort to establish consistent and equitable recommendations which will protect homeowners as well as homebuilders, subcontractors and suppliers.

To assist the five-member committee in its exploration of the strengths and weaknesses of the current laws, a Lien Law Advisory Committee has been established. The Advisory Committee consists of members from 20 Georgia organizations.

The Senate Comprehensive Lien Law Study Committee will report its findings, as well as any recommendations for proposed legislation, before Dec. 31, 2007.

“I appreciate Lt. Governor Cagle’s confidence in appointing me to serve on the committee studying the strengths and weaknesses of our current lien laws,” Golden said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that Georgia’s lien laws are both fair and effective for all parties involved.”

In addition to the Senate Comprehensive Lien Law Study Committee, Golden also serves on committees to study Property and Casualty Rate Regulation; Communications Taxes, Fees and Telecommunications Franchising Processes; and Cigarette Tax Evasion.

Golden, serving his fifth term in the Senate, represents Georgia’s District 8, which includes Brooks and Lowndes counties and parts of Cook and Thomas counties. He is Secretary of the Senate Appropriations Committee and also serves on the Finance, Insurance & Labor, Higher Education and Government Oversight Committees. He is chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus.
