Sen. Golden named Secretary of Appropriations Committee
January 9, 2007 -- Atlanta, GA -- State Sen. Tim Golden (D-Valdosta) was appointed Tuesday by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle as secretary of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for the annual state budget.

Senator Golden was also appointed to the Senate Finance committee, the powerful committee charged with writing the state’s tax laws.

“I pledge to work diligently to help craft a fiscally responsible budget that meets our state’s needs while protecting the interests of Georgia’s hard-working taxpayers. I am grateful to Lt. Gov. Cagle for the confidence he has shown in me and the bipartisan spirit of leadership he is bringing as presiding officer of the Senate.”

Senator Golden was reappointed to the influential Insurance & Labor Committee as well as the Committee on Higher Education. He was also named to the Government Oversight Committee.

Senator Golden was re-elected in November 2006 to his fifth term in the Senate, representing District 8 (Lowndes, Brooks, Cook and Thomas counties). He also serves as chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus. He served four terms in the Georgia House of Representatives prior to his election to the Senate in 1998.
